Critical Care Transfers from ED

Hi all,

I would like to share with you a recent patient safety initiative on the transfer of critical care patients from our ED. As we know, the transfer of critical care patients is associated with increased risk of mortality and morbidity. It can be a stressful time for all involved. The overarching goal of this project was to help standardise a time critical, urgent intervention for both patients and staff.

The transfer bag teamed with a pre-transfer checklist was rolled out in July. The contents of bag are segmented in a standard ABC fashion with an additional pharmacological section containing emergency drugs. A comprehensive pre-transfer checklist accompany's the bag, its design based on patient physiology, essential transport monitoring and equipment.

I would encourage all staff to familiarise themselves with it, starting with the link below
